For over two decades, the IBM Systems Technical University (TechU) events have delivered technical training for IT professionals on IBM innovations. Each year, IBM works with vendors, partners and clients to improve the content to meet the evolving needs of our IT community. These  events are always jam-packed with sessions to help attendees understand how next-gen cloud and cognitive technologies impact their IT infrastructure, while helping them build the skills they need to implement server and storage solutions that address today’s challenges and future needs.
October 2018 brought us two #TechU events at the Diplomat Beach Resort in Hollywood, FL. Each focused on a specific IBM Systems platform, and both offered the most up-to-date information on their respective IBM solutions. For the true blue techies, there were quite a few reasons to attend:

  1. To grow our skills via hundreds of in-depth lectures, demos and labs delivered by IBM Distinguished Engineers, developers and product experts
  2. To accelerate learning for z/OS
  3. To showcase expertise with IBM Professional Certification
  4. To explore AI, machine learning and deep learning in the Cognitive Systems track
  5. To expand our professional network connecting with peers and product developers
  6. To expand upon our professional communication and leadership techniques

What Happened in Hollywood

The teams from the ATS Group and Galileo Performance Explorer have delivered presentations, expertise and some fun at the IBM #TechU conferences for years, and last week, our team traveled to south Florida for the last US-based Technical University of 2018 featuring IBM Power Systems. Meeting up with the Galileo team at these conferences is a great opportunity to learn about the exciting developments the Galileo engineers have delivered over the last year to enhance your IBM environment.

Our VIP Reception & Point Royal Luncheon

The after-hours “sessions” at IBM TechU are fantastic opportunities for networking with IBM technical gurus, new clients and IBM Business Partners… like us! TechU events alway send you home with a stack of business cards, a bag of fancy merch and a lot of new LinkedIn contacts, but also memories from meeting new friends at the Solution Center or lobby bar and running into old friends in sessions and bootcamps — ok, maybe the lobby bar too. Because we’re all busy, sometimes TechU is the only place where we can meet face to face!

A great time was had by all at the #GalileoVIP welcome reception at Portico.

Members of the Galileo and ATS teams (Tim Conley, Heather Eisenmann, Bill Maloney, Jo McCausland, Liz Brown, Shannon Heidemann, Anthony Cupo… and me, Kelly Nuckolls) had a blast hosting a VIP Welcome Reception on Monday, October 15th at Portico to kick off the week. A little rain cooled things off right before the steel drum band started playing, and everyone enjoyed amazing weather, cocktails and conversation on the Intercoastal. We were thrilled to see our partners, customers, vendors and friends all together in one place.
On Tuesday, a group of our channel partners and clients took a break from the hustle of the conference to join us for a quiet Lunch and Learn at Point Royal where Senior Account Executive, Shannon Heidemann, and Principal, Tim Conley, presented a demonstration of the power of Galileo to increase uptime, pinpoint usage trends, forecast demands, right-size environments and accurately plan for the future.
